Munchkins Sought For "Wizard Of Oz"

Munchkins sought for ‘Wizard of Oz’

Children in Grades 5-10 invited to audition for Drayton Entertainment production

PENETANGUISHENE – Local children are being given a chance to follow the yellow brick road toward their first big break in show business.

Drayton Entertainment is looking for youths to take part in its season-opening production of “The Wizard of Oz,” scheduled to run from June 7 to July 2 at the King’s Wharf Theatre in Penetanguishene.

An open audition is scheduled for April 9 at noon at Penetanguishene Secondary School (51 Dunlop St.) to cast boys and girls in Grades 5-10 to play munchkins in the popular musical.

Wannabe munchkins are asked to bring a recent photo and comfortable clothes and shoes. They should be prepared to sing “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.”

“There is outstanding talent in this community,” Drayton artistic director Alex Mustakas stated in a news release. “We are delighted to give our youth the opportunity to appear on stage and work side-by-side with professional actors.”

The production is also in need of a pooch to play Toto.

“We’re looking for pets with potential. They don’t have to be professionally trained,” said Mustakas.

“However, there is a significant time commitment required of the owner and the dog that is selected.”

Auditions for dogs weighing less than 30 pounds will be held the same day beginning at 3:30 p.m.
