Joshua Winslow "Josh" Groban (born February 27, 1981) is an American singer-songwritermusicianactor, and record producer. His four solo albums have been certified at least multi-platinum, and in 2007, he was charted as the number one best selling artist in the United States with over 21 million records in this country.[1][2] To date, he has sold over 24 million albums worldwide.[3]
Groban originally studied acting but as his voice changed, it developed into a "significant instrument". The event that changed Groban's life was when his vocal coach, Seth Riggs, submitted a tape of Josh singing, "All I Ask of You", from The Phantom of the Opera, to Riggs' friend, renowned producer, composer and arranger David Foster.[4][5] Foster called him to stand in for an ailing Andrea Bocelli to rehearse a duet, "The Prayer," with Celine Dion at the rehearsal for the Grammy Awards in 1998.[6] Groban, being shy, reluctantly agreed. Rosie O'Donnell was so impressed that she immediately invited him to appear on her daytime talk show.[7] He got another big break when Foster asked him to sing at the California Governor's Gray Davis' 1999 inauguration.[4][8]His name and career soared with the public recognition he received, after being cast on Ally McBeal by the shows creator David E. Kelley, who asked him to perform "You're Still You" for the shows 2001 season finale.[9]

Thanks Billy Joel... This Is What Real Music Is All About...

This song, and its' title, was an answer to a Final Jeopardy question -- only one person got it right.

Question:  "What 1980s song do history teachers praise for its educational value?"

If you couldn't understand all the references in Billy Joel's song, fortunately, with this video, given the pictures, we can now "see" what our "ears" couldn't hear.

Apparently, the purpose behind this song was Joels' homage to the 40-years of historical headlines since his birth (1949).  It's unfortunate that we didn't appreciate the depths of this song when it was realased.  Twenty years later, it's amazing what Joel was able to put into music and lyrics lasting only a few minutes.

Whether you are a Billy Joel fan or not, you probably remember his great song, 'We Didn't Start the Fire'.  Here it is, set to pictures.  It's a neat flashback through the past half century.  I never did know all the words.
Turn up volume, sit back and enjoy a review of 50 years of history in  less than 3 minutes!  Thanks to Billy Joel, and some guy from the University of  Chicago with a lot of spare time, and Google.  Top left gives you full screen.  Top right lets you pause.  Bottom left shows the year.

The  older you are, the more pictures you will recognize.  Anyone over age 65 should remember over 90% of what they see.  But it's great at any age ~ ENJOY and APPRECIATE.

New Lead Cast In Charlottetown Festivals' Anne Of Green Gables - The Musical

  Image: Tess Benger

Anne of Green Gables-The Musical™

April 14, 2011

Charlottetown, PE – The Charlottetown Festival promised a new Anne of Green Gables-The Musical™ this year, and the creative team is proud now to announce the new cast for the lead roles in Canada’s longest running musical.

“It is an exciting and somewhat daunting prospect to approach this Canadian jewel and bring a fresh face to it,” says Marcia Kash, the production’s new director. “I am looking forward to working with this wonderfully talented cast, some of whom know the piece intimately and some who, like me, will be coming to it for the first time.”

Tess Benger is one of those talents coming to Anne for the first time. Benger will star as the musical’s beloved Anne Shirley. She is the fifteenth actor to become Anne in the production’s 47 year history. Benger appeared as Brenda in the Festival’s blockbuster production of Hairspray last year.

“I remember watching the show last year. I was teary the whole time; it’s such a beautiful, heartfelt story. I remember thinking what a joy it would be to one day play Anne, but I never imagined I would be lucky enough to do it only one year later,” Benger says.

Her passion for theatre comes naturally: her mother is an actor and her father is a documentary film producer. She was acting on stage at an early age, but at 13 when it came time to choose whether or not to attend an arts focused school, she chose soccer over theatre. Yet after high school she chose the Music Theatre Performance Program at Sheridan College.

“Before I auditioned for Sheridan I was sure I wanted to be a gym teacher,” she says. “I think there was a part of me that knew I would end up in this business. My heart is in it.”

Kristian Truelsen takes on the role of Matthew Cuthbert, and Nora McLellan joins the cast as his sister Marilla Cuthbert. Truelsen was featured in Kiss Me, Kate and Evita at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival last year. McLellan appeared in the Stratford Festival last year as well, and spent 22 seasons at the Shaw Festival.

“This will be my first chance to explore Prince Edward Island; my first chance to work with the exceptional talent that is Nora McLellan, and my first time performing this beloved story, so full of heart,” Truelsen says. “To choose which of these firsts I am most looking forward to is impossible!”

Justin Stadnyk steps into the role of Anne’s adversary Gilbert Blythe. Also a graduate of Sheridan College, he has performed throughout Canada, including roles with Mirvish Productions and the Shaw Festival.

Lisa Lennox returns to the role of Diana Barry, a part she played in 2003. Completing the cast are Gabriel Antonacci, David Ball, Greg Barry, Jordan Bell, Robin Calvert, Matthew Campbell, Lindsay Croxall, Craig Fair, Rick Hughes, Susan Johnston-Collins, Zak Kearns, Judy Kovacs, Glenda Landry, Julain Molnar, Kyla Musselman, Marlane O’Brien, Kristen Peace, Kristen Pottle, Dane Wagner and Stephanie West.

“With the new choreography of Mike Jackson and a stunning new set by Doug Paraschuk we can promise you a very different Anne experience,” Kash says. “If you've seen Anne of Green Gables at The Charlottetown Festival a hundred times before, you'll have to see it again-- because you won't have seen it like this!”

Anne of Green Gables-The Musical™ plays at The Charlottetown Festival June 28 to August 31. Visit the Confederation Centre of the Arts box office for tickets, phone (902) 566-1267, toll free 1-800-565-0278, or go online to:

Welcome Back k.d. Lang

About this Album

This expanded edition of the album, with four additional tracks, is available for pre-order, exclusively at kdlang.com.

Nonesuch Records releases k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang’s Sing it Loud on April 12, 2011.

Produced by lang and Joe Pisapia, it is the award-winning singer-songwriter’s first record made entirely with a band of her own since the pair of albums with the Reclines that launched her groundbreaking career over 20 years ago.

This collection of songs reflects the organic, collaborative nature of the sessions, which took place at Pisapia’s Middletree Studios in Nashville. Many of the songs were recorded live in the studio and that energy is palpable. The lead single “I Confess” is one of three songs lang penned with keyboardist Daniel Clarke and Joshua Grange, who plays baritone guitar and dobro. In addition to the original material, Sing it Loud includes a striking version of Talking Heads’ “Heaven.” Pisapia, who plays numerous instruments and serves as the band’s musical director, contributed the title track and co-wrote five songs with lang. Bassist Lex Price (Mindy Smith, Peter Bradley Adams) and drummer/percussionist Fred Eltringham (The Wallflowers) complete the lineup.

Sing it Loud is lang’s first studio album since 2008’s Watershed, which debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. In 2010, she marked the 25th anniversary of her recording debut with Recollection, a career retrospective.

News & Reviews

  • Sing it Loud, the new album from k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang, was released earlier today in Australia, and lang and the band celebrated with a number of early morning TV appearances there. They kicked things off with a performance on Sunrise, offering their own take on an Aussie classic: the Little River Band's hit "Reminiscing," which you can watch here. That was followed by interviews on Today and One Plus One, with a Weekend Sunrise performance to come this weekend.

  • The Belleayre Music Festival in Highmount, New York, has announced its 2011 concert season, and a number of Nonesuch artists set to take the stage there this season: k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang, Punch Brothers, and Jessica Lea Mayfield. The festival, situated high atop the Catskills mountains, kicks off on July 3 with a performance from lang and her band. Punch Brothers take the stage on August 27, with Mayfield opening.
